Schlumberger, Poids de verre étalons monétiforms d'origine byzantine, no. 32 (proposed reading Euandrou, which is not possible). A very well-preserved glass weight belonging to an interesting Byzantine aristocrat. Very fine.

This glass weight likely belongs Areobindos, a praetorian prefect of the East at the end of the reign of Justinian I, in 563. In historical sources, he appears as honorary ex-prefect of the city (see PLRE Areobindus 4).
